Keep it timeless....

Tyler Boye Photography
So many Brides feel they need to look similar to how they "usually look" on their wedding day.  Honestly, ask yourself this question: How often do you wear a wedding dress? You invest a lot of money on the gown to celebrate your big day so why not glam it up a bit?

Hair and make-up can completely transform you. I understand you might not necessary want to be transformed but let's think of it as "enhanced". The first thing I do at a trial is ask the Bride to see her dress. The dress is the biggest statement I feel a bride makes on her wedding day. This dress sets the tone for your wedding.

Is your dress ....
Modern?
Traditional?
Vintage?

Looking at the dress helps me understand a lot about my Bride's personality. Is she flashy, conservative or trendy?

Next , I ask to all Brides to bring pictures of hair & make-up that they like. These photos tell me so much about my Bride. Like everyday cut & color clients, if she brings photos that are consistent , I know that is her true vision. If she brings 5 different photos , some modern, some sleek, some with pin- curls, I know she needs some suggestions. The biggest tip I have for all of my Brides is
"Keep it timeless".

What's timeless? As a beauty professional I always look to: Elizabeth Taylor, Sofia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy , Marilyn Monroe .... Iconic women in History. These looks have constantly been reinvented in the beauty/fashion world. Time and time again I look to these women for inspiration.

 time·less
 1.
without beginning or end; eternal; everlasting.

These women are not dated in the least bit. I encourage my Brides to make sure their hair & make-up stays away from what's trendy because they just might have regrets. I remember when I went to prom and the "in look" was twists and little Velcro gems be-dazzled in my hair. Yes, I was young but how embarrassing!!!

These are some hairstyles that I try to steer my Brides away from on their Wedding Day.

The famous side bun and the braid.....

The side bun especially on this girl is "hot". If you were going to a club, or out to dinner I think it is very appropriate. I would even recommend it for attending someone's weddings where you are not going to be in the spot light. This is a very popular look and I love this for everyday just not on your Wedding. In 5 years you'll look back and say "oh my goodness look at my hair".  Taking this look and simply styling it to be centered would be a better choice.

The Braid- What else can I say but.... trend, a dead one at that. Not many people even remember this look ,  it was only 3 years ago people were wearing this style like crazy!

Here are some timeless styles that have a modern day twist :

Another thing to keep in mind....your Bridesmaids!

Bridesmaids are essential for pictures and make a statement. Think about a runway show. The designer has several girls dressed in his/her collection. To keep the collection strong, they have a very consistent "look" to their hair & make-up. This helps the focus to be on the clothing.  Bridesmaids are the "collection" on your wedding day. So the Bride sets the tone for her day, hair & make-up , and overall look. The Bridesmaids should follow your lead. So if the Bride is going with a "soft, romantic look" so should the Bridesmaids.

Just a little suggestion:

Make a story board for your wedding. It gives everyone a visual for what you want to create on your big day. It will help you see consistencies and a clearer vision on what your theme is on your wedding day.
