Lots of clients are skeptical when it comes to using products. I am sure you have a closet full of products that you either don't know how to use or just are not the right products for you. The best advice I give my clients is read the label!!
For example : There are several levels of Hairspray all that help create/mold different looks
Soft - brushable spray, volumizer spray, shaping spray
Medium- texture spray, working spray, flexible hold
Strong -finishing spray, strong hold, maximum spray, finalizing spray
There are so many brands and so many levels of spray. Read the labels when your shopping for a new product , you'll be surprised how much they vary!
Application is extremely important. Too much of a product is not only a waste but can have reverse effects on the hair. A little product goes a long way. Start with a small amount then add more if needed.
If your a product junkie- Remember some products cause build up over time. A lot of people think they have dandruff when it's actually product! Take time when washing your hair to exfoliate your scalp. It might be a good idea to use a clarifying treatment or a deep cleansing shampoo once a week.
Tea Tree, is amazing for a deep cleanse. It's great for removing excess products and rejuvenating the scalp. Men especially love tea tree shampoos. Some clarifying shampoos even tea tree, if used excessively can remove color from the hair.
When you apply your product, is it in damp hair or dry hair? Believe it or not that makes all the difference. Some product applied on wet hair will hold moisture and cause unwanted separation. Lots of men who like a "matte look" apply to dry hair!
Do you blow dry?
A lot of products are heat activated. If done correctly, using the right products, a good blow out can last several days. Take the time a do it right, you'll see lasting effects
How much is too much?
It's alarming to me how many clients wash their hair everyday. Over washing the hair is unnecessary. If you have curly hair, coarse hair , frizzy hair or a combination of them all, please take the following advice.
If you need to wash your hair everyday , try using just conditioner. Conditioners have cleansing agents in them and can help lock in the much needed moisture.
Try just wetting the hair. The natural oils from our scalp can be extremely beneficial to clients who have curly, dry hair and even help condition a dry scalp.
If you have very fine, oily hair consider a dry shampoo. Dry shampoos help with texture. For girls who struggle with styling their "soft" hair a dry shampoo can be beneficial for creating different looks.
